Drugs Found In Man's Pants At Causeway

Ever heard the story of Aretha Franklin getting caught for carrying drugs? She was found to be carrying 100 pounds of crack in the back of her pants... :p

In competition to Ms Franklin, the passenger of a Malaysian taxi entering Singapore was acting too nervous as he approached the Causeway. The suspicious behaviour caught the attention of switched-on immigration officers on Tuesday afternoon.

Upon a body search, the 49-year-old Singaporean man was found to be carrying 137.5 grams (about 4oz in the 'old drug weights') of contraband drugs tucked into the front of his pants. The 'green substance' was wrapped in cellophane and was identified as cannabis.

According to the accused, he had bought the drugs for 900 ringgit, from a man called "Suhaimi" in a market in Johor Bahru.

The accused has claimed that the drug was intended for his personal consumption.

The case has been referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau for investigations.

For illegal importation of this quantity of cannabis, the accused could be jailed between five years and life imprisonment, and be given between five and 15 strokes of the cane. Lucky he wasn't carrying more than 500 grams, or he would be looking at the death penalty!!
